On International Day for Mine Awareness, Mayyun demands the restructuring of the National Mine Action Committee
The International Day for Mine Awareness, designated by the United Nations, on April 4 of each year, in light of the continuation of the conflict in Yemen, and with it the continued planting of landmines, which represents a complex security and social problem and an economic dilemma, which is also the most prominent obstacle to achieving peace in the country.
As we commemorate this important international occasion, we are saddened by the heavy price that civilians pay in many regions and governorates as a result of the landmines that the Houthi group deliberately planted in residential areas and livelihood areas.
It is also important to remember the role that the media must play in raising awareness of the danger of mines, which have caused the presence of thousands of amputees among us in their wheelchairs… and the necessity of adopting strategic awareness projects for a land free of mines.
Believing that clearing and destroying mines and remnants of war are concrete steps that contribute to achieving peace, establishing security, and alleviating the suffering of civilians, we renew our call to the Houthi group to take a courageous step by handing over maps of mines to organizations working in the field of mine clearance.
As we demand the restructuring of the National Mine Action Committee, we once again declare our stand with all mine victims, calling for urgent humanitarian action to provide support and reparation for the injured and their families, and to empower and integrate them into society.
In this regard, we salute those brave organizations, projects and engineering teams who sacrificed their lives and their bodies to pieces in an attempt to dismantle and destroy mines.
