Mayyun Organization statement on the occasion of the International Day against Hate Speech
Hate speech has been increasing in Yemen through the media of the parties to the conflict on social media since the war broke out in the country more than eight years ago. As we commemorate the International Day Against Hate Speech, we warn against the parties’ media continuing to incite violence, undermine social cohesion and tolerance, and intimidate and betray voices calling for peace. We affirm that combating hate requires the various media to stand firmly against cases of hate speech and to play a decisive role in combating this scourge as a moral and ethical duty. And given the great influence of social media on its various platforms; We call on the pioneers and activists in Yemen to adopt the discourse of tolerance and spread the value of peace. We also call on all Yemenis to embody the principle of “No to Hate” by sympathizing with all victims of violations from different ethnic and religious backgrounds and defending the rights of all civilians.
