Mayyun Organization strongly condemns the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh

Mayyun Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 AD, by Israeli army fire in Jenin camp while she was performing her journalistic work.

This flagrant crime is a flagrant violation of the human right to life, a violation of freedom of expression guaranteed by Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and a violation of international human rights law, which prohibits targeting media workers with lethal or less lethal force while carrying out their work.

While we in Mayyun deplore the Israeli army’s continued denial of responsibility for the killing of Abu Aqleh, we call on the organizations concerned with the protection of journalists to work by all means so that those responsible for this crime do not go unpunished.

This crime reminds us of the unsafe environment in which journalists work in Yemen and the grave violations against them.
