Mayyun Organization Expresses Deep Concern and Sorrow Over the Death of Ahmed Abdulkhaleq Ahmed Baalwy, WFP IT Officer

Mayyun Organization expresses its deep concern and sorrow over the death of Ahmed Abdulkhaleq Ahmed Baalwy, the Information Technology Officer at the World Food Programme (WFP), who was abducted by the Houthi group from Saada governorate on January 23, 2025. His death was announced under mysterious circumstances on Monday, February 10, 2025.

This incident raises grave concerns about the lives of dozens of individuals abducted by the Houthi group, including employees of international organizations, foreign embassies, and local organizations since June 2024. The whereabouts and health conditions of these detainees remain undisclosed, and communication with their families has been restricted.

It is deeply painful to witness humanitarian workers and activists, who have made tremendous efforts to deliver life-saving aid, subjected to such violations, losing their lives under unknown circumstances, far from their families and loved ones. This third such incident underscores the serious risks faced by all those who have been abducted.
It is clear that the Houthi group uses these victims as hostages, indifferent to their lives, in an effort to force UN organizations and international bodies to yield to the group’s demands, including pressuring UN agencies and international organizations to influence any international decisions targeting the group.

At Mayyun Organization, we stand in full solidarity with the Baalawi family in this great loss. We also emphasize the ethical responsibility of the World Food Programme, the United Nations, and other international organizations that have failed to take sufficient measures to protect their employees, who were asked to continue their work in a high-risk environment, and have not acted seriously to ensure that their abducted employees are not subjected to violations or undue risks.

It is time to reveal the fate of all those abducted by the Houthi group, particularly the employees of UN organizations, international agencies, and local civil society organizations who have been missing since June 2024. We call for their immediate and unconditional release.
