Statement condemning the deadly attack on a popular market west of Taiz

Mayyun Organization for Human Rights condemns the drone attack carried out by the Houthi group on a popular market in the village of Al-Bumiyah, Maqbanah District, west of Taiz Governorate, on Sunday, December 1, 2024. This attack resulted in the deaths and injuries of 14 civilians, including children.
While the organization condemns this deadly airstrike in the strongest terms, it warns of the increasing disregard for civilian lives amid the weakening of monitoring and accountability mechanisms. This trend threatens to collapse a fragile, undeclared truce and undermines international efforts for peace in Yemen.
In this context, it is important to highlight that this unjustified attack in an area near Hays, south of Hodeidah, exacerbates the suffering of the population. According to the latest statistics from the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs, malnutrition on the western coast of Yemen affects 77,000 children and pregnant women.

As we express our absolute solidarity with the families of the victims and extend our condolences to the grieving mothers, we call on all those concerned with human rights around the world to condemn these grave violations of civilians’ right to life. We urge international organizations to take a firm stance to prevent the perpetrators of these crimes from escaping punishment and to bring those responsible before international judicial institutions.
