Press release on World Press Freedom Day
Journalists in Yemen work in a dangerous work environment during which they are exposed to grave violations, including the violation of the right to life, and the continued imposition of unprecedented restrictions on press freedom, especially in the north of the country, which has entered the eighth year of the war.
While the world commemorates the World Press Freedom Day, 4 Yemeni journalists are still languishing in the prisons of Houthi group in Sana’a, waiting for the execution of mock death sentences issued against them by a court under the authority of the armed group.
We call on the international community, United Nations, the local and international civil society, especially the organizations concerned with the protection of journalists, to exert more continuous pressure on Houthi group to repeal the unjust sentences against four journalists and to release them immediately along with the rest of the journalists detained by various parties.
