Welcoming statement for UNMHA’s announcement of its readiness to provide support to reduce mine accidents

Mines that were planted during the years of war are still harvesting civilians in Hodeidah, where a child was killed and 4 others wounded on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, when a landmine left behind from the war exploded in the Al-Hawk area. This incident comes in light of the intransigence of  Houthi group, its refusal to hand over mine maps, the failure to make the required effort to remove and dismantle mines and remnants of war from its areas of control, and its continued planting of mines in areas covered by the Stockholm Agreement. Mayyun Human Rights welcomes UNMHA’s announcement that it stands ready to provide the necessary support to reduce mine accidents and protect the citizens of Hodeidah, children, women and men.We call on those directly concerned to make double efforts to clear mines, taking advantage of the support offered by the United Nations Mission. Mayyun Organization – hopes from (UNMHA) and the relevant international and regional organizations more pressure to stop the transfer and planting of more mines in the districts of Hodeidah Governorate by  Houthi group. We also demand (UNMHA) to pressure  Houthi group to hand over maps of mines, especially those planted in residential areas, livelihoods, and public and secondary roads.
