Press Release: Condemnation of the Killing of Three Children by a Drone Strike South of Hudaydah

Mayyun Organization for Human Rights strongly condemns the horrific crime committed by the Houthi group, which used a drone to target a civilian home in the village of Bish, north of the Hays district in southern Hudaydah governorate, on Thursday morning, April 10, 2025. This attack resulted in the deaths of three children.
The victims have been identified as:
– Yahya Salem Obaid, 2 years old
– Riham Salem Obaid, 5 years old
– Waad Ibrahim Obaid, 3 years old
The organization considers this airstrike a grave violation of international humanitarian law, specifically the Geneva Conventions of 1949, and the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines. Targeting civilians, especially children, contravenes the principles of distinction and proportionality in armed conflict.
Mayyun Organization calls for:
– Immediate and thorough investigations into this incident
– Accountability for those responsible
– Enhanced protection measures for civilians
The organization also urges the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) to activate monitoring and documentation mechanisms, collaborate with civil society, and ensure the prosecution of perpetrators to prevent impunity.
Mayyun extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the rights of civilians, particularly women and children, in conflict-affected areas.
