Mayyun condemns the kidnapping of political activist Raddad Saeed Al-Hothifi
Mayyun Organization condemns the Houthi group’s kidnapping of the political activist Raddad Saeed Qasim Al-Hothifi in Ibb Governorate on Sunday, September 1, 2024 because of his political opinions that he publishes on social media platforms, which include criticism of the armed group’s violations and repressive practices.
We denounce this repressive measure that violates human freedom of expression, which comes as part of a restrictive campaign that has been ongoing for years to silence the mouths of remaining political opponents in Houthi-controlled areas and force them to leave.
The continued intimidation of journalists, opponents, and activists on social media platforms by the Houthi security services, days after announcing the formation of an internationally unrecognized government called “Change and Construction,” is a dangerous indicator of this government’s approach and its endeavor to tighten its security grip on civilians and impose a single voice. The only way to express the Houthis.
We call on the Houthi group to stop these inhumane practices against civilians that undermine peace efforts, and we demand that they reveal the whereabouts of Raddad Al-Hothifi. We also demand that they and all parties to the conflict in Yemen release all prisoners of conscience immediately, and we remind that these violations do not have a statute of limitations and that those who commit They are subject to individual and collective legal accountability.
